An Intellectual Pursuit
Years of meticulous study delving into vineyard rows, micro-blocks, and soil varieties has shown us the Okanagan Valley’s most exceptional sites. These sites undeniably allow us to capture the Valley’s unparalleled, distinctive terroir.
Dekleva-Combret Vineyard
Southwest of the town of Oliver, this is the home vineyard of CheckMate. From here, you look across the Bench, down the valley towards Lake Osoyoos and into the United States. To the west, you are dominated by Mt Kobau and to the east you see the magnificent rock formations that sit above Black Sage Bench. The views are majestic, and the mountains are awe-inspiring.
Jagged Rock Vineyard
Tucked against the Black Sage Bench, this vineyard is characterized by the surrounding jagged rock formations that radiate heat onto the vineyard rows. Understanding this sites potential is critical in how we farm these blocks, modifying canopies, watering and pick times to achieve the perfect balance of power and elegance.
Border Vista Vineyard
Border Vista Vineyard, located on the Canada-US border, boasts sandy soil that plunges to depths of 100 feet. It stands as our warmest and most exposed vineyard, yielding bold, intense wines.
