2018 Little Pawn Chardonnay

Vibrant nose with hints of peach, rose petal, jasmine, elderflower, green tea and sandalwood. Flavours of white peach excite the senses with a citrus line extending through the palate, complexed by herbal, fennel and sea salt notes.

Jagged Rock Vineyard

Nestled in the Okanagan Highland foothills of the Black Sage Bench just southeast of Oliver, these Chardonnay blocks were planted in 1999 on a west-facing plateau to a mix of clone 76 and our heritage ‘Dekleva’ clone.

The soil is composed of sand and gravel formed by glacial activity. The porous nature of the soils limits the vigour of the vines, producing low-yielding grape clusters concentrated in flavour.

To my palate, this has emerged as the finest Chardonnay in the CheckMate portfolio: simply polished perfection. It is floral in aroma with notes of citrus, peach and papaya intense on the palate. The finish does not want to quit.

100 Points, John Schreiner
