Cabernet Franc
The low vigour, sandy soils of a single block in Vista’s Edge Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench provide intense fruit and aniseed flavours from a site tucked into the foothills of the Okanagan Highland.
The nose opens with bright blackberry and succulent raspberry, lifted by a soft perfume of violet petals. The palate broadens with each sip, showing an expansive, integrated profile where delicate oak and savoury spice mingle with sagebrush and rich cocoa. Silky, delicate tannins and bright acidity carry the wine to a refined, lingering finish.

Cold events in 2023 and 2024 damaged every one of our estate vineyards. Certain vineyards fared worse than others and our Merlot vineyards on the Black Sage Bench did not survive. As we have continuously learned and explored in the Okanagan Valley, we are excited about the quality that Cabernet Franc can achieve here. The long days in a short growing season provide complexity and fruit density, while maintaining freshness and acidity. Black Rook continues to come from our estate vineyards on the Black Sage Bench, defined by sandy, glacial soils, long sunlight hours, and a concentrated, spicy, dark-fruited character, evident in both the Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

“Deep purple in colour, with an attractive nose of raspberries, ripe red cherries, and a touch of tobacco leaf. A classic and gorgeous Cabernet Franc, fresh and yet never green. The palate is intense, with bright fruit, fine grained tannin and sweet oak that is beautifully integrated into the whole, pure and intense. Really well balanced and elegant, with gripping tannins and a long and yummy finish.”
