Deep, rocky soils and old, gnarly vines (planted in the early 1970's) combine to create a wine with an intense bouquet of honeysuckle and stone fruits. The palate explodes in the mouth, being round and fleshy, yet silky all at the same time with hints of butterscotch, marmalade, butter and barrel spice.

"The fruit is from the Combret Vineyard on the Golden Mile, also near the winery and also with mature vines. Some 87% was fermented with wild yeast and the wine was fermented 16 months in French oak (46% new). The wine creates an immediate impression of richness, both in the buttery, fruity aromas and on the palate, with flavours of orange and stone fruit."

"The nose is a lovely floral affair with threads of wet stone and mineral mixed with ripe, tropical melons and citrus. The palate is equally intense, with nectarine and orange marmalade, and a dash of exotic litchi fruit. Only 8 barrels were made, all French oak, and 44 percent new; the remainder ranges from one to fourth fills. The texture and mouthfeel are as refined as possible, and bode well for another three to five years of bottle ageing."

"It is perfectly balanced. It's not as sharp and as lively as some, but it seems sturdier and more evolved than many."

- Robert Parker
